Letter from the Chairman
IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Awards Committee

To : To : Indian Business Organizations, Educational Institutions & Health Care Institutions
Date : 15 August 2007

Dear Friends,
Commencing 2008, the IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award (IMC RBNQA) Program for performance excellence enters a new era : our focus on business and social enterprises will be balanced, equally. We believe this is the correct approach for building a robust India. We believe quality education and health care are the foundation for a nation’s prosperity.

Over the past eleven years, the IMC Quality Cell has tirelessly promoted the IMC RBNQA Program across India and neighboring countries. To date, the Cell has distributed in excess of 15,000 sets of the criteria to organizations that wish to pursue excellence. A substantial number have used the Criteria for self assessment and transformation, and achieved significant results in terms of output quality, customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.

The IMC RBNQA examiners have raised the bar each year. Each year we have added almost one hundred new examiners. Our examiners come from manufacturing and service industries, management consultancy firms, and educational and health care institutions. This diversity and the consequent wealth of experience and perspectives, adds more value to their eventual output: the feedback report. The feedback report is used by applicant organizations to positively and dynamically transform their organizational processes. The result: accelerated metamorphosis. Effective 2008, we will organize independent batches for training examiners in the three focus areas of business, education and health care.

The IMC Quality Awards Committee has benefited from the services of past presidents of the IMC. Along with external authorities on business excellence, education and health care, they have ensured transparency in the Awards process.

Each year the panel of judges ensures that the reputation of the IMC RBNQA is enhanced. The panel is chaired by the previous year’s IMC Juran Quality Medal winner.

The winners of the IMC RBNQA showcase their identified best practices, at the annual “Making Quality Happen” conference. This enables other organizations, to witness first-hand, learn, and adapt superior managerial practices. The eventual winner: India. Further, our winners have brought glory to India by winning the Asia Pacific Quality Award; (a competition amongst national quality award winners in the Asia Pacific region); for the last six consecutive years. An affirmation of their calibre.

In conclusion, what is at stake over the next five years in the business and social sectors, is a complex battle to reduce costs of poor quality, and arrest attrition. The outcome of this battle will shape our nation’s future for generations to come. I wish to invite the Indian business community as well as educational and health care institutions to aggresively adopt the IMC RBNQA criteria. According to me there is no other significant option for reinventing India.

Best Wishes,

top
